CIVIL UNDERGROUND CURRICULUM WORKSHOP & OUTREACH PROGRAM

Position Your Students to Succeed.  Receive Supporting curriculum for structural, geotechnical and construction engineering instructors and make your program stand out.

Are you a civil engineering professor/instructor interested in developing curriculum in the growing field of civil underground engineering? Check out this great paid opportunity and submit your nomination by February 25, 2022.

About the Program

Ten civil engineering professors/instructors will be selected to attend the North American Tunneling conference in Philadelphia, June 19-22, participate in a curriculum workshop during the conference, and then implement lessons, homework problems, and/or presentations in junior level courses (intro to geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, construction engineering) during the academic year 2022-23. These curriculum items enhance the instruction of existing topics required in these subjects using civil underground examples and frameworks. No experience in civil underground is needed, but a passion for teaching civil engineering undergrads is!

  • Each participating professor/instructor will be paid a $1,500 honorarium plus all travel expenses and registration fees for the North American Tunneling conference.
  • Eligible professors/instructors are those who teach structural, geotechnical or construction engineering to junior level civil engineering students.

About Civil Underground Engineering

Civil underground involves the design and construction of tunnels, shafts, deep excavations, and underground structures. ASCE and UCA (Underground Construction Association) have identified the shortage of trained civil engineers to be a major threat to this growing infrastructure sector.
