Have a question about submitting an abstract, being a part of the technical program, or presenting a short course topic? We can help! Below we have answered some of the most Frequently Asked Questions about being an author.

You can submit your abstract by visiting Abstract Submission. To view sample topics and more information about becoming an author, please visit the Authors Overview.

You do not need to be a member of SME to submit an abstract.
Abstracts for consideration are due July 31, 2021.
You may submit an abstract for presentation as long as you reference the original conference or publication in your presentation. You may not submit a manuscript if you have signed a copyright with another organization.
We ask that you keep your abstract to 100 words.
Manuscripts should not exceed 10 pages.
We do not need copyright assignment on abstracts. If accepted, you will be asked to sign copyright assignment for the manuscript.
Acceptance or otherwise will be sent out in September 2021.
All requests to withdraw must be submitted by email to Authors support at authors@smenet.org. It is also helpful to inform your session chair of your withdraw.
SME does not cover travel expenses or registration costs for presenters.
Abstracts will be available online in December 2021.
No, the abstract is what conference attendees will use to determine what sessions/presentations they will attend.
Yes, all presenters are expected to register and pay for the conference. SME does offer a discounted speaker rate.
An email will be sent to the email address listed for the primary author. If someone else submitted the abstract for you and used their email address they will receive the confirmation.
No, each submission must be done separately.
